Dr Hassell graduated in 1981 from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Micro Biology, and his Minor in Chemistry. In 1986 he graduated from the University of Missouri, in St. Louis with his Doctor of Optometry. In the summer of 1985 he did his internships at the Indian Health Service in Anadarko, OK and the Colorado Optometric Center in Denver, CO. Also in 1985 he interned at the St. Louis Optometric Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr Hassell is the president of NHH Vision Group, S.C. a corporation formed in 1990, which has offices in Shawano WI, Florence WI, and Kingsford, Michigan. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association, Wisconsin Optometric Association, a Vision USA Volunteer, EAA Booth Volunteer, a Certified CRT, and he is AOA Aviation Vision Certified. He holds a Professional License in Wisconsin and Michigan.
